Graphite is diamagnetic and metallic. Surface oxidation of graphite can give rise to the change in localized electronic states which cause an increase in the density of state at the Fermi level as well as the development of magnetic ordering. The main goal of this research is to study the bandstructure of oxidized graphite and magnetic properties of it. X-ray magnetic circular dichroisms (XMCD), Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES), DC susceptibility measurements with SQUID are major tools to investigate the magnetism in graphite.
